Burns & McDonnell continues Scottish expansion with new office
Engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell is expanding its presence in Scotland by moving into a new office to accommodate a rapidly growing team.
The Scottish office, which was launched in 2022, has expanded in under two years from four people to a team of more than 30.
The new space will allow the firm to continue its growth journey and enable employees to more easily collaborate with team members and clients.
This is seen as important to Burns & McDonnell as it looks to support Scotland and the UK’s ambitious climate goals, including the Scottish Government’s target to have more than 20 GW of additional renewable electricity on and offshore by 2030.
Last year Burns & McDonnell joined a major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) substations framework, and has been awarded an EPC contract for the Grid Supply Point project at Errochty, Perth and Kinross.
Jonathan Chapman, UK managing director, Burns & McDonnell, said: “I’m proud of the rapid growth of the team in Scotland in just two years, and I’m excited to see this growth and progress continue. This new office reemphasises our commitment to investing in Scotland’s power system and a long-term sustainable future in Scotland.”
Matthew Flint, supply chain manager at Burns & McDonnell, said: “Scotland and the whole of the UK is having to rapidly integrate new forms of power generation, and I’m excited that we will continue to engage our Scottish supply chain partners as we work to adapt the grid so it is ready for net zero. The wealth of talent, knowledge and expertise on offer from the supply chain will be vital as we devise creative solutions to support grid modernisation in Scotland.”
Transmission & distribution senior operations manager, Scott Bryce, has been working closely with Ryan Carroll, head of engineering for Scotland, as they jointly led the launch of the Scottish business and secured the firm’s growing project portfolio. The Scottish team now works across Transmission & Distribution, Construction, and Environmental Services with John Fox heading up the Scottish Environment team.
Scott Bryce, senior operations manager, Burns & McDonnell, said: “This is a fantastic time to be in Scotland, working with some of the leading talent in the sector to solve some of the country’s most pressing challenges. I’m delighted that this new office will allow us to continue our growth as we help clients secure access to clean and reliable energy for future generations.”
