Cadworks issues appealing for unused prams for Refuweegee
FORE Partnership, the developer of Glasgow’s Cadworks office building, is appealing for unused prams and buggies in a major drive for social enterprise Refuweegee.
Following a similar effort prior to the pandemic where FORE collected bikes for local Glasgow charity Soul Riders, prams and buggies will be collected by the Cadworks team for professional cleaning and servicing by Glasgow-based company Pramcleanscotland, which will take no profit from the project. Thereafter the prams will be given to Refuweegee, who will distribute them to those in need.
People from displaced communities often arrive in Glasgow with their babies and young children and very little else. Prams are not considered an ‘essential item’ by the Government and so are not offered as part of support, even though a pram can make an enormous difference to a family’s life. Prams allow a parent to leave their home, which may not be near any shops or facilities, with a baby, to go to medical appointments, or even just get fresh air. A pram is unquestionably necessary.
FORE Partnership’s managing partner, Basil Demeroutis, said: “When we invest in a city, we don’t simply pay attention to our property, we consider our building as part of an urban system and look at how it can be used to address long-term, endemic social and environmental issues. This often involves working with government, other businesses, and grassroots charities who are on the front line.
“There is absolutely no question that a pram is vital for someone with a baby, yet people arriving in Glasgow often have absolutely nothing, and no means of purchasing one on their own. We are appealing to families that have a surplus pram or buggy that’s now unused, let us know. We will collect it, clean it, service it to ensure it’s safe, and pass it to Refuweegee, who do an incredible job supporting new arrivals to Glasgow in their time of desperate need.”
Joe of Pramcleanscotland said: “We are really excited to be involved in this project to support families as they rebuild their lives here in Scotland. We’re delighted that this will contribute to the circular economy - customers often tell us that our services have saved their pram from their local dump - so it’s a real win-win for everyone.”
