Caerlee Mill developer lends support to Queen’s Green Canopy project
Whiteburn Projects has supported the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) project by planting 30 ornamental trees as part of the national initiative to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ at its Caerlee Mill development in Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders.
Caerlee Mill said the project will continue to grow for the enjoyment of the local community for generations to come.
The team has selected an impressive selection of silver birch, acer and cherry trees that will enhance the development landscape and provide colour throughout the year as the seasons change.
Toria Jones, sales manager for Whiteburn, welcomed children and grandchildren of those living at the development to plant the trees, and it’s been a pretty special event as she explains: “We are so pleased to provide a lasting legacy for future generations by taking part in the Queen’s Green Canopy ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ initiative.”
Eve McCurrich, managing director for Whiteburn, added: “As well as creating even more of a special community environment at Caerlee Mill, we believe the planting of these trees will have a positive impact on the local area by providing even more natural habitats for local wildlife to thrive, while creating a living legacy for the community to enjoy as the trees grow and mature in the future.”
Whiteburn’s Caerlee Mill development in Innerleithen has created 44 contemporary two, three and four-bedroom houses and cottage flats, each one designed to reflect the spirit of the former mill site which stood at the heart of the community for over 200 years. This has been achieved by ensuring the roofscape echoes the sawtooth roof of the former mill buildings and by using materials such as slate, zinc, brick and timber cladding which replicate the site’s industrial past.
Caerlee Mills’ contribution to the QGC now forms part of the development, which notched up its latest success in the Homes for Scotland 2021 Awards in November 2021 where it was named as Small Development of the Year.
