Seven students from SLC, which is based in East Kilbride, visited Cala’s nearby Sequoia Meadows development in Jackton to meet with the site team to see firsthand the ongoing work at the live development.

The NC Construction Management students are on a practical course which helps develop basic skills in construction methods, either required for further study or to gain employment. The qualification covers various modules including Modern Methods of Construction, Sustainable Design for Architecture, and Construction Site Surveying. The variety of class learning, practical work, site visits and guest speakers make the qualification enjoyable and interesting. Cala’s David McKie and Barry Gibb, site manager, gave the students and SLC lecturer Neil McKay a tour of the popular development both on site and within properties before conducting a Q&A session.

David McKie, senior site manager at Sequoia Meadows, said: “South Lanarkshire College is only a short drive away from our development here at Sequoia Meadows so we were happy to welcome the students to safely visit both the construction part of the site as well as the finished products so they can see the full life cycle.

“I really hope they enjoyed the visit, it’s important that we can contribute to our community in different ways.”

Lecturer Neil McKay, added: “Our students greatly appreciated the time and efforts of the Cala site team in making this a really informative and beneficial experience for our them. These experiences help make the course practical and engaging, and we hope it helps stimulate them to go on to either a placement in industry or further their education in college or university. This type of industry link provides invaluable knowledge and insight to our young aspiring professionals.”
