The executive team from Homes for Scotland, as well as members from McTaggart Construction, Springfield Properties and Robertson Homes, met with the Campion construction team. Campion’s consultant architect David Tibbs of Oliver Robb Architects was also on hand to explain the process of designing this Passivhaus development. He demonstrated the extensive details required to achieve Passivhaus accreditation.

Sitting at the edge of the Fife village of Gauldry, Campion Homes has completed 30 new homes for social rent built to Passivhaus and Net Zero Carbon standards on behalf of Kingdom Housing Association.

The design also complies with Housing for Varying Needs, Building Regulations Silver Sustainability Standards and will achieve Secured by Design Gold accreditation.

These new homes will be highly efficient and will achieve an energy rating of 102 which exceeds the ‘A’ rated Energy Performance Certificate banding (92-100).

Designed to such a high standard, these homes will not only provide an environmental benefit but will also address fuel poverty by reducing energy costs for tenants.

The key principles of Passivhaus standard include increased high-quality insulation, high performance triple glazed windows & doors, airtight construction, MVHR heat recovery ventilation and enhanced thermal bridge detailing.

Campion Homes was previously involved in a pilot project which saw us construct the first Passivhaus in the affordable homes sector in the UK in Pittenweem in 2011.
