Campion Homes is now onsite to deliver three major affordable housing developments across Fife and Dundee.

The family-run housing developer, which will mark 35 years in business this year, will build 99 affordable new homes as part of ongoing partnerships with Angus Housing Association and Kingdom Housing Association.

For Angus Housing Association, Campion will deliver 21 units on the site of the previously demolished St Vincent’s Primary School in Dundee.

The development will be made up of 14 social rent properties, comprising six two-storey semi-detached homes and eight cottage flats, as well as a block of six single-storey supported accommodation flats, with another for a duty care worker.

Kevin Lynch, director of asset management at Angus Housing Association, said: “This is an exciting development for Angus Housing that has had its challenges but is now on site. We are looking forward to working with Campion Homes again, following the successful completion of our St Lukes and Longhaugh new build development, located less than a mile away from St Vincents. The quality homes being developed by Campion will be a great addition to our stock and the local community, and will no doubt be in high demand.”

Campion will deliver two further developments for Kingdom Housing Association in Pittenweem and Leuchars, comprising 29 and 49 homes respectively. Campion has worked in partnership with Kingdom Housing Association since 1989, delivering over 1,600 homes.

In Pittenweem, Campion identified and acquired a site for affordable housing and engaged with Kingdom Housing Association as development partner and end user. They designed and obtained all statutory approvals for a designated housing mix of 29 units comprising 17 four-six person houses, a five-bed specific needs house, eight cottage flats incorporating amenity units on the ground floor, plus two amenity and one wheelchair bungalows all for social rent.

All units are compliant with the Association’s design guide, Housing for Varying Needs and the completed development will achieve Secure by Design gold standard.

In Leuchars, Campion will build 49 properties, made up of 36 semi-detached homes, four semi-detached amenity bungalows, one detached wheelchair-accessible bungalow, plus eight cottage flats. The company will also deliver all associated roads, car parking and sewage works as part of the development.

Tricia Hill, Kingdom Housing Association’s development director, said: “The Kingdom Group has a long track record of working with Campion Homes, delivering high-quality, highly energy-efficient homes. At the Kingdom Group, our mission is to provide more than a home and our range of services allows us to do more and achieve more for our customers and our communities.

“The developments in Pittenweem and Leuchars will bring much-needed affordable homes to the East Neuk of Fife and the diverse housing mix will have broad appeal.”

Susan Jackson, joint managing director at Campion Homes, said: “At Campion, we’re passionate about delivering affordable homes of the highest quality and have a deep understanding of social housing.

“We’ve worked closely with Angus Housing Association and Kingdom Housing Association for a number of years, helping to empower local communities and transform lives. To date, we’ve delivered almost 2,600 affordable homes across East Central Scotland.

“With Fife Council recently declaring a housing emergency, it’s more important than ever that we work with our partners to deliver affordable housing. The developments now underway in Dundee, Pittenweem and Leuchars will help but we know there is more to do.

“We look forward to seeing these sites progress and working with our partners to deliver even more homes for people across Fife and Dundee.”

Campion Homes has reported a positive start to 2023/24 with a return to profit in the first half of the financial year as inflationary pressures ease. The company is also achieving healthy sales on its two private housing developments in Glenrothes and Crieff, with an additional site planned for later this year in Meigle, Perthshire.

Campion Homes is also currently shortlisted twice in the “Development of the Year – Medium” category at the annual Homes for Scotland Awards. This year’s ceremony will take place in May and will focus on how the sector can meet the housing needs of everyone living, or wishing to live, in Scotland.
