Catterburn Bridge re-opens to traffic
Catterburn Bridge, located south of Croftamie, Stirling, has re-opened to traffic.
The bridge re-opened last Wednesday evening, initially to one-way traffic, following the completion of extensive and complex repair works.
Located on the A809, the bridge suffered a partial collapse on 30 September 2021 as a result of storm damage, forcing its closure and the implementation of a diversion route for traffic.
Stirling Council committed £2.5 million for essential repairs to the crossing and to Branshogle Bridge (located between Fintry and Balfron) which re-opened in December after it also sustained significant storm damage in March 2021.
Repair work at both sites proved challenging due to a range of factors, including unstable and varying ground conditions, diversions of public utility apparatus, the ages of the bridges and environmental factors.
Environment, Transport and Net Zero Committee Convener, Councillor Jen Preston said: “We know the closure of the A809 and Catterburn Bridge has caused serious disruption to local residents and businesses for almost two years.
“We would like to apologise again for the inconvenience and thank everyone for their patience and understanding of the complexities of the repair work involved. These works have been difficult and have involved numerous agencies and services working together in often challenging conditions.
“We’re looking forward to seeing a return to normal traffic flows in and around Croftamie and surrounding areas.”
