CCG makes strong progress on £9m Govan affordable housing project
A £9 million affordable housing development in the heart of Govan is making significant strides towards its projected completion in spring 2024.
The project, helmed by CCG Scotland on behalf of Trust Housing Association, is set to deliver 46 one and two-bedroom amenity flats catering to residents over 55 years of age, situated adjacent to Govan Cross Shopping Centre on Langlands Road.
The homes have been designed to meet the “Housing for Various Needs” standards, “Greener Standard” and “Secure by Design Gold Standard”, thereby accommodating any future requirements of Trust’s customers, whilst CCG’s advanced construction methods will ensure future residents will benefit from drastically reduced heat loss, thanks to the homes’ enhanced thermal performance, which will in turn help to control fuel bills and lower carbon emissions.
The £9m development has been part-funded by Glasgow City Council, who contributed £5.7m towards the project.
CCG director, Calum Murray, said: “We are delighted to see the progress being made at Langlands Road. This development showcases our company’s strength and depth across the entire delivery process, from land acquisition to securing of consents and construction, underpinned by CCG’s in-house technical expertise.
“This includes our method of build – CCG are pioneers of ‘offsite manufacturing’ in Scotland which, in our case, involves the creation of entire wall zones with pre-installed insulation, wall linings, windows and doors assembly in a factory setting that allows rapid build on-site.
“It’s an incredibly efficient way of building and helps deliver enhanced quality and energy performance standards as well as a drastically improved speed of delivery.
“It is one of two new build developments under construction by CCG in Govan that will provide over 130, much-needed, affordable homes. Langlands Road will be a valuable addition to the local community upon completion early next year and we thank Trust for their support in the delivery of this landmark project.”
The news of the construction milestone comes as Trust Housing Association commenced celebrations for their 50th birthday with the launch of a new brand identity and the merging of Trust and Wishaw & District Housing Association to create the new ‘Trust’.
Trust’s director of assets & sustainability, Jackie McIntosh said: “With the project due to complete in April 2024, we are now mid-way through the build programme at Langlands Road. It is great to see the buildings start to take shape in this key site in central Govan, close to our existing retirement development at Garmouth Court and Trust’s Govan Office.
“We’re grateful for the support of Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government in helping us increase the supply of much-needed affordable housing in Glasgow.
“These new homes will contribute to the ongoing regeneration of central Govan and have been built with energy efficiency in mind, with high levels of insulation and energy-efficient heating, as well as electric car charging points all of which will help our tenants with their bills and help us cut our carbon footprint.
“With excellent public transport links including Govan Subway Station and Govan Bus Terminal located only 200 metres away, along with the £29.5m City Deal funded Govan to Partick pedestrian/cycle bridge located only 300 metres away, our tenants will also benefit from environmentally travel options to access the City Centre, the West end and beyond.”
