CCG secures land for new Govan homes
CCG (Scotland) is to work with a social landlord to deliver new homes in Govan after acquiring a plot of land at a former car park.
About this development:
- Authority:Glasgow City
- Type:Residential
- Applications:
- Team:Mast Architects (architect), CCG (developer)
Commercial property and investment company LCP, owner and manager of the Govan Cross Shopping Centre, have sold 0.265ha of surplus land to deliver a new development of 46, highly energy-efficient new homes.
Under the plans, there will be two blocks containing a mix of 26 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom dwellings for affordable rent on the corner of Langlands Road and Golspie Street.
A statement included with the planning application explained that the proposed flat type plans have been developed in consultation with an RSL partner to deliver one and two-bedroom dwellings suitable for a range of tenure including:
- Young professionals – due to the proximity of public transport
- Young families – with the provision of generous four-person flats
- Elderly – due to proximity to the local facilities and transportation.
Roddy Proudfoot, director and head of Scotland at LCP, said: “Govan Cross Shopping Centre continues to be a valuable amenity for the local community. The centre has proudly served Govan for many years, however, the vacant land at Langlands Road was surplus to our requirements and we felt it could be better utilised to serve wider community needs. The need for new homes is significant in areas like this at present and the new development will help to meet that requirement.”
CCG director, Calum Murray, said: “Govan is an area of Glasgow that is well known to CCG. We have successfully completed over 120 affordable homes in the last 2 years, most recently regenerating the former Drumoyne Primary School, whilst works continue to progress at the Water Row Masterplan in the town centre with a further 92 homes being delivered alongside £50,000 of localised investment.
“CCG is immensely proud to be playing a key role in the regeneration of Govan and I am in no doubt that this new development will be welcomed by the community.”
