CGC to showcase efforts to boost young careers at Scotland Build
Paisley-based construction firm CGC is to talk about its strong commitment to helping young people forge successful careers at an industry event next week.
The company will be represented at the Scotland Build Expo 2019 event participating on a specially-selected panel of industry leaders who will examine its commitment to young workers.
CGC commercial director Dave Palmer will join other panellists at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre for the ‘Future Generation of Construction’ debate.
It comes just weeks after CGC launched its own initiative to recruit young workers in construction known as ‘Bright Futures’.
For the first time, Bright Futures brings together all of CGC’s work in apprenticeships, work placements for teenagers and is a brand new effort to help young people.
Costing tens of thousands of pounds it will also pay for further and higher education for young people it hopes will eventually join the company.
Among the early participants in CGC’s Bright Futures programme is an 18-year-old school graduate who was recruited at a similar event last year, hosted by Renfrewshire Council.
He is currently studying at college on a funded day release programme from CGC as he learns how to become a quantity surveyor. Nearing the completion of his first year at college, he will continue to be supported through his university degree.
CGC also currently has a trainee civil engineer working with the business gaining valuable experience in a one-day-a week placement while she undertakes her college studies.
Dave Palmer said: “The Future Generation of Construction event will allow us to share what we are doing through Bright Futures among other members of the construction industry. CGC is aiming to become an innovative industry leader as we develop strong support for young construction workers. We hope to launch more Bright Future initiatives in the near future.
“It is vital that we engage with young people and set out the compelling reasons for young people to choose rewarding careers in construction.”
The organisers of Scotland Build said the event will “highlight a wide range of career paths within construction and challenge stereotypical perceptions of the industry”.
Leo Reilly, managing director of CGC, said: “CGC is leading the way in career opportunities for young people in construction. Our Bright Futures initiative represents a significant commitment by us to encourage them to choose a fulfilling construction career.”
Future Generation of Construction will take place at Scotland Build 2019 Expo on March 21.
