Constructed by CHAP Group, the new facility was completed some three months ahead of schedule.

The contractor began clearance and demolition works towards the end of 2018, marking the start of a 16-month contract which was due to finish by March 2020.

The project consisted of the demolition of the existing fishmarket prior to the construction of a steel-framed building with integral auction hall and welfare facilities, chilled compartments with transport corridor and the installation of loading bays. External works to the yard area included lighting, electrical and drainage services.

Local contractors who were involved in the build include EMN Plant Ltd, Delting Site Service Ltd and Arch Henderson.
