The initiative was held at the company’s Darnick Street site on Friday 2nd June, in celebration of the United Nation’s World Environment Day.

The international awareness day, which will be marked globally on Monday 5thJune, seeks to highlight the many ways human behaviour can positively, and negatively, effect planet Earth.

Each year, organisers focus on one particularly pressing environmental concern and have chosen ‘nature’ as the theme for 2017. As part of the campaign, people from across the world are being urged to reconnect with their natural surroundings. They are being encouraged to spend time in the great outdoors and appreciate how much we depend on water supplies, ecosystems, fresh air and wildlife.

To assist with the global mission, City Building welcomed representatives from leading groups including the Woodland Trust, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Home Energy Scotland, PlanBee, an organisation dedicated to safeguarding the UK’s honey bee population, and conservationist charity Frog Life.

The organisations were on hand to talk about the ways employees can contribute to worldwide environmental causes. Employees were also given the chance to capture selfies with a real-life Harris hawk which was taking part in demonstrations in the yard.

In addition to visiting various exhibitions, the City Building team raised funds for the organisations with raffles and home baking stalls.
