The Glasgow-based construction firm scooped the awards for Organisational Development of the Year and Diversity and Inclusion of the Year, which was a new category for 2019.

Executive director Dr Graham Paterson was named Chief Executive of the Year while City Building made history by becoming the first organisation to walk away with the Outstanding Contribution to Scottish HR award.

The category, which has previously only ever been won by individuals, focused this year on the theme of community.

Judges said that City Building’s approach had changed the lives of many people within the communities served by the organisation. They also praised the company for inspiring others with its innovative ways of working, and by continually looking to improve.

The event, which was held at the Hilton Glasgow, is the largest awards ceremony of its kind for HR professionals in Scotland and acknowledges some of the best in the business. This year’s ceremony was hosted by radio and TV presenter Stephen Jardine.

Dr Graham Paterson said: “I’m so proud of everyone - it’s absolutely fantastic that City Building has been recognised at this year’s Hr NETWORK National Awards, and to have won in four categories is an amazing achievement.

“Our staff work very hard to ensure the business continues to improve every day, and to be rewarded for our efforts is fantastic. I’m particularly proud of the Diversity and Inclusion award - It’s highly rewarding to be acknowledged for our commitment to supporting a diverse workforce with a brand-new prize in that category.

“It’s a huge honour to have been named as Chief Executive of the year, but I couldn’t have done it without the backing of such a fantastic team.”

The wins come after City Building was recently recognised with a gold award from the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme and last year gained the prestigious Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development for a second time.
