City of Glasgow College claims seven design awards for Riverside Campus
City of Glasgow College scooped seven awards for its Riverside campus at the Scottish Design Awards this week.
Michael Laird Architects and Reiach and Hall Architect lifted the award for Best Public Building and Architectural Grand Prix on Wednesday for after their joint venture conceived and designed Riverside through a combination of ideas about the city and the student experience.
Principal and chief executive officer at the college, Paul Little, said: “To have our Riverside campus pick up so many awards in such a short space of time is utterly brilliant. All these accolades underline what staff and students - and the 5,000 visitors we’ve welcomed to date - know and love about our campus; that it is a stunning building which is an inspiring place to learn and work in, and which truly has the wow factor.”
Riverside campus is also in the running for the AJ100 Building of the Year and British Construction Industry Building Project of the Year (between £10 milllion and £50m).
To date the building has won the Glasgow Institute of Architects Design Award when it was highlighted as a memorable civic landmark. The Scottish Property Awards: Architectural Excellence (Public Buildings); Considerate Contractors: Riverside and City campuses won a Silver National Award; RICS Award: Design through Innovation, and the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) Scotland Project of the Year.
The Scottish Design Awards reward top architecture firms and design agencies for their contribution to the country’s historic and contemporary design culture.
Joining both design teams on the winner’s podium were Here +Now C.IC. which picked up Jestico + Whiles board director Heinz Richardson’s chairman’s award for architecture and Page\Park who were named architecture practice of the year.
