The best new buildings in Scotland have been revealed in the annual Scottish Property Awards with City of Glasgow College shortlisted in three of the eight categories.
The Scottish Property Awards is an independent awards and publicity programme which recognises design, projects and talent in Scottish commercial property.
Designed by Michael Laird Architects and Reiach & Hall Architects, Riverside Campus is home to 2,000 students and features the most technologically-advanced marine engineering workshop in the UK. It also boasts Scotland’s first shipping simulation suite that allows students to experience the bridge of a super tanker, nautical chart rooms and a ferry sized ships engine. Its Marine Skills Centre has its own jetty with rescue and free-fall lifeboats.
Principal and chief executive officer, Paul Little, said: “I am delighted that City of Glasgow College has been nominated for these prestigious awards. This underlines what we already know about our Riverside campus, that it is a stunning building which truly has the wow factor. In its design we have created an open, inclusive and up-to-the-minute environment with technology and facilities ahead of current industry standards.
“Riverside is the most future-proofed maritime campus in the world and sets the standard for the UK. It represents a £66m investment in maritime education and STEM subjects and completes phase one of our inspiring twin site supercampus. The building is a centre piece in the renaissance of the River Clyde and Glasgow’s shipping heritage and its unashamed boldness reflects City of Glasgow College’s world-class ambitions.”
Riverside Campus has been included in the following categories:-
City Regeneration Project of the Year – for the best urban redevelopment project in a city centre location.
Community Development of the Year (Public Buildings) – for community driven building projects which draw together the skills of the public and private sectors working together for the benefit of a local area
Architectural Excellence Award (Public Buildings)– presented to an architectural practice for the innovative and creative design of a project
The winners will be announced at a black tie awards dinner on Thursday 3 March 2016 at The Glasgow City Hotel.
