Clark Contracts installs ‘Elephant Pump’ in Africa

Clark Contracts has sponsored the construction of an Elephant Pump in Africa, which will provide a sustainable supply of fresh drinking water.

The contractor has invested in AquAid water coolers on all their projects. As part of each water cooler purchase, a donation is made to The Africa Trust, giving the company the opportunity to support those less fortunate across Africa.

The Africa Trust was founded by AquAid in 2010, with the mission of bringing sustainable solutions to poverty in Africa, and empowering communities to be able to care for themselves.

These funds are used to build ‘Elephant Pumps’, a modified version of an age-old Chinese rope pulley system. One of these pumps is currently being installed in Africa on behalf of Clark Contracts and will be a much-needed source of clean and fresh drinking water for the local community.

Gordon Cunningham, managing director of Clark Contracts, said: “We are delighted to be able to support such a fantastic initiative. This award-winning technology provides vital resources across Africa, which many of us may take for granted. We look forward to continuing our support of this.”

To date, AquAid has supported the installation of over 8,000 of these Elephant Pumps across Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
