The Play Drome occupies a key town centre location and the council will now focus on securing a development which will significantly enhance the area.

Councillors yesterday agreed that the site be made available for sale or lease, with leisure outlets such as cinema, restaurants and gyms all possible uses.

Councillor Patrick McGlinchey, convener for infrastructure, regeneration and economic development committee, said: “This is another step forward in securing a positive future for the Play Drome site. The site is right at the heart of Clydebank and I’m now looking forward to seeing what proposals come forward from developers. These are exciting times for the town, with major plans for the Queens Quay site – including the new leisure centre – and the regeneration of the Play Drome site.”

Councillor David McBride, depute-convener for infrastructure, regeneration and economic development committee, said: “I am delighted that the Play Drome site will now be put on the market, which is an important milestone for this development. Once a developer is secured for the site, it will offer both employment opportunities and economic benefits for the people of Clydebank.”

The new leisure centre at Queens Quay is expected to be fully operational by February 2017, at which point the Play Drome would become available for demolition.
