Collective Architecture submits Briggait Creation Centre plans
Plans to build Scotland’s first purpose built accessible space for disabled dancers have been submitted in Glasgow.
Collective Architecture’s proposals will the Category A-listed former Briggait fish market in the city’s Merchant Quarter transformed into home for dance and physical performance.
The £3.06 million project Briggait Creation Centre, for Wasps Studios, will provide space for 600 professional artists, physical performers and dancers and will include six dance studios and a café.
The work forms the second phase of development at the site following a £6.8m refurbishment of the Briggait by Nicoll Russell Studios in 2009.
Collective, who were appointed to the design team back in April, said it aims to provide a facility that will meet the needs of the dance and physical performance sectors and enhance the building’s current offering to artists and the wider public.
The scheme is set to start on site in the summer and is due to complete in December 2017.
