The construction work at Maybole Community Campus has been completed ahead of pupils and staff returning after the summer holidays.

The campus, which incorporates the new Carrick Academy, Culzean Primary & Early Years Centre, St Cuthbert’s Primary, a Police Office, and the Maybole Leisure Club has been in use from August last year, but final external works were still to be completed.

These works are now finished, and the grounds have been fully landscaped and include an eye-catching amphitheatre, which incorporates salvaged stone from the old Carrick Academy.

In addition, there are now two multi-use games areas, additional playground space, a pedestrian concourse and parking and drop-off areas.

Councillor Martin Kilbride, Buildings, Housing and Environment Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council, said: “This is great news! The campus is looking fantastic, and it will look even better when the new grass has established, and trees are planted later in the year. This final phase of construction was vitally important and ensures that there is full access to the campus not only for pupils and staff but the whole community.”

Councillor William Grant, Education Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council, said: “This impressive facility is giving children and young people in and around Maybole a significant boost in their learning environment. The campus is already making a difference, not only to those that attend the schools, but the entire community. The enhanced access and parking areas ensure it will serve Maybole and the surrounding area for generations to come.”

A ceremony will be held in November this year to mark the official opening of the campus.
