A “crescent-style” apartment block has been planned for the empty lot on the corner of Northfield Drive and Willowbrae Road.

The plans arrive more than four years after the former Radical Road bar was demolished to make way for a housing project – only for those plans to be denied by City of Edinburgh Council planning chiefs.

The developers now hope to build the flats in the curved building, which will also contain ground floor retail space.

The previous designs include a five-storey block and lower level car park along with balconies and roof terraces, however were deemed inappropriate for the area, STV News reports.

The site was once home to the Right Wing pub, owned and operated by former Hibernian player Gordon Smith.

A CDA design statement reads: “The building form and massing has been reduced to four storeys of accommodation as viewed from Willowbrae Road, to align better with the varying building heights in the immediate context which range from five storeys to single storey.

“Utilising the site topography a further level of accommodation and parking/landscaped amenity is provided at lower ground level to the rear of the development.”
