The A803 Corridor Improvements Project is an element of the Council’s £34.88 million Place and Growth Programme - supported by the UK and Scottish Governments through the Glasgow City Region City Deal.

The aims of the project - which also involves Glasgow City Council and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) - are to increase the number of journeys by active and sustainable travel (walking, wheeling, cycling and bus), improve bus reliability, air quality and local environments, reduce dependency on the private cars and support inclusive growth and access to employment.

The project team is currently undertaking a feasibility study to investigate what improvements could be made to the A803 Corridor. Views from communities served by the corridor on what they believe are the key issues, opportunities and potential improvements are now being sought.

Initial consultation is taking place until Tuesday 22 November 2022. You can get involved by visiting the website. A drop-in event is taking place on Tuesday 15 November at Bishopbriggs War Memorial Hall - between noon and 6.30pm - to provide information and gather views.

Information and paper surveys are also available at Bishopbriggs and Springburn Libraries, as well as the Leisuredrome in Bishopbriggs.

Whether you live in Glasgow or East Dunbartonshire, you are being encouraged to have your say at this early stage to ensure the project develops in line with the needs of people who use the corridor. Attendees at the drop-in can also find out more about other elements of East Dunbartonshire Council’s £34.88 million Place and Growth Programme: Bishopbriggs Town Centre Regeneration; and Westerhill Masterplan and Development Road (Phase 5 of the Bishopbriggs Relief Road).

Meetings are also taking place with community groups and local schools.

Councillor Gordan Low, leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “We want to engage with as many people as possible to help identify and develop improvements to the A803 - a busy route which connects Bishopbriggs to North Glasgow.

“The project aims to progress sustainable and active travel links, boost the local economy and employment opportunities, and give everyone more choice on how they travel. It will also help to connect communities currently separated by the A803.”

Survey responses will inform a feasibility study to investigate what improvements could be made. This will be followed by further consultation.

Councillor Low added: “This is a great opportunity to help create a better environment along a strategically-important corridor, connecting communities, businesses, facilities and vital services.

“We’d encourage anyone with an interest in the area to share their local knowledge and ideas for change by Tuesday 22 November.”

The Scottish Government’s Business Minister, Ivan McKee, added: “The Scottish Government is investing £500 million into the Glasgow City Region Deal, which is supporting this important work being carried out in East Dunbartonshire.

“Bringing together communities currently separated by the A803 will benefit businesses and people, improve sustainable travel links and more, helping the region’s key role in driving Scotland’s economy.

“I encourage people in the area and those who use the route to take part in the online survey this month or attend the drop-in event so they can have their say as plans for improvements progress.”

As part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal, the Scottish Government is also investing £20 million to create a medical research and commercialisation facility.
