Contracts awarded for Argyll and Bute school improvement works
Argyll and Bute Council has pressed on with plans to refurbish Salen and Port Charlotte primary schools by awarding contracts for the works to two local companies.
TSL has been awarded the contract for the £1.3 million project at Salen Primary on Mull, while MacLeod Construction Ltd will undertake the £450,000 project at Port Charlotte Primary on Islay.
The work is being carried out as part of Argyll and Bute Council’s commitment to deliver 1140 hours Early and Childcare, and will see extensions added to both schools as well as internal improvements to the existing school buildings.
Argyll and Bute Council’s policy lead for education, Councillor Yvonne Mcneilly, welcomed the news: “We are putting a massive investment into our school estate to ensure our children and young people have a first class learning environment.
“I’m delighted that the contracts have been awarded to two well-known local companies and I look forward to seeing the projects come alive over the next few months.”
Policy lead for commercial services, Councillor Alasdair Redman, added: “Not only will the refurbishments benefit pupils who already attend these schools, they will enable people to see the great teaching and learning opportunities we have in the area and hopefully encourage more families to move to Argyll and Bute.
“It’s also great that two local businesses have been awarded the contracts for the work, helping to support them and their staff, and build up the local economy.”
