Councillors approve £56m elective care centre in Aberdeen
NHS Grampian has been granted planning approval for an elective care centre in Aberdeen.
About this development:
- Authority:Aberdeen City
- Type:Healthcare
- Applications:
- Team:Mackie Ramsay Taylor (architect), Astell Associates (landscape consultant)
Situated on grassland next to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, off Foresterhill Road, the new facility aims to provide ‘one-stop’ outpatient clinics for urology, respiratory, dermatology and outpatient imaging services.
The four-storey building will include surgical and medical specialities for day patients, as well as an endoscopy unit.
The plans, which are designed by Mackie Ramsay Taylor Architects to “future-proof” elective services against demand growth and capacity challenges, were unveiled last year at an NHS board meeting, along with the timeline for the project.
Estimated to cost around £56 million, the development had been recommended for approval by council planners.
A report to the planning committee read: “The proposal is found to accord with the provisions of the development plan, and no material considerations have been identified that would outweigh the provisions of the plan.”
Landscaping undertaken by Astell Associates will introduce a daffodil hill, wildflower meadows and space for seating and cycle parking.
