Angus councillors have approved plans submitted by Scotia Homes for 146 new homes on the north-western edge of Arbroath.

The Ellon-based housebuilder submitted plans for the Crudie Farm site, adjacent to Arbirlot Road West, last year.

Following discussions with planners, the homes will use brick instead of timber cladding in order to keep with the area, The Courier reports.

The housing will be the first tranche in a five-phase programme for hundreds of new homes.

Designed by MGA Architecture, the proposed houses are predominantly two storey but bungalows will be built as part of the 25% affordable housing element of the development, equating to 36 homes.

Scotia said 10 homes have been designed to meet particular needs, with four fully wheelchair accessible.
