Design commendation for Dundee Medical School
The Dundee Civic Trust, which encourages the best standards of architectural design and town planning for new developments, has commended the University of Dundee Medical School for its outstanding contribution to the city’s townscape.
The trust highlights the £8 million upgrading of the Medical School’s Gannochy Trust Lecture Theatre and the extension of the library building at Ninewells. This, the trust said, provides a state of the art learning environment which is regarded as an important asset in attracting medical students to Dundee.
the project was designed by Archial NORR and built by ISG Construction.
In the new Robertson Library & Learning Centre, art work is incorporated into glazed panels and good use has been made of a constricted site with maximization of energy efficiency and natural ventilation.
“We paid a lot of attention to creating not just wonderful facilities for our students but also a superbly designed building that the thousands of local people who come to Ninewells each day could appreciate, “said Professor Gary Mires, Dean of Medical Education at Dundee Medical School.
“That’s why we are particularly pleased to receive Dundee Civic Trust’s commendation at the 2014 award ceremony. This represents an authoritative and independent endorsement of a job well done.”
Dundee Civic Trust is a charitable trust that was established in 1973.
