Design team sought for £17m Helensburgh Waterfront Project
Councillors have agreed to appoint a design team for the £17 million Helensburgh Waterfront development in Argyll and Bute.
The selected team will be tasked to refine plans for the project near West Clyde Street.
Features include building a new leisure centre containing two swimming pools, changing rooms, lockers and showers, a gym suite, a new play area and two new studio rooms.
In addition, new surface, better lighting, a car park and public spaces will be created.
Sea defences will also be developed with rock armour boulders providing a natural barrier around a new walkway.
Construction work is due to be carried out between June 2018 and March 2020, with the new leisure centre opening in April 2020.
Cllr Ellen Morton said: “We are absolutely delighted that we are now in a position to drive the project forward.
“Like all our other big investments in Helensburgh over the past few years – the new Hermitage Academy, the revolutionised town centre and the fabulous new community resource that is the civic centre – and the other exciting project in the pipeline – Hermitage Park – this will really improve our town.”
