Glasgow City Council had previously granted planning permission to create 413 new flats, plus offices and retail units, on the site.

Now Sanctuary has bid to make minor alterations which will “deliver better homes” and improve the site’s amenity space.

In a letter to the local authority, planning agent McInally Associates stated: “Since the time of the original consent for the Victoria site and via the establishment of contracts to carry out the various phases of the job, it became clear that a number of minor variations were required to the consented plans.

“In all regards, it is submitted that the minor amendments now proposed have become necessary as a result of issues relative to economic viability, amenity space and privacy concerns in relation to the deck areas.”

Peter Martin, Sanctuary’s Group director – development, told our sister publication Scottish Housing News that the planned number of units or planned number of car parking spaces will not be reduced under the new plans.

He said: “Our award-winning design team has reimagined the site to deliver better homes for everyone on it.

“By tweaking the design we not only retain and restore Battlefield Road’s iconic Nightingale Pavilions but can also improve the site’s amenity space.”

An earlier application for minor changes was approved in September.

Once completed, the Collective Architecture-designed project will offer around 300 homes for private sale. The remaining homes will be available for affordable housing subject to Glasgow City Council grant approval.
