Designs unveiled for Glasgow immigration centre
Developers behind a proposed new immigration detention centre near Glasgow Airport have revealed drawings of the plans.
Plans to close Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre and build a new detention facility in Glasgow were announced by the Home Office last month.
The UK government said replacing Dungavel with a new short-term holding facility is part of a strategy for a “more efficient and cost effective detention estate”.
Pending approved from Renfrewshire Council, the proposed facility in Abbotsinch Road would be used to accommodate people detained during immigration enforcement operations.
Images from planning papers submitted by Grove Developments show a part single, part two-storey building would contain 51-beds.
