Developers welcome Almond Valley decision
The Pilkington Trust and Stewart Milne Group have said they are pleased after the Scottish Government Reporter upheld their appeal in the case of their residential development at Almond Valley in Perth.
The ruling has cleared the way for work to begin on the site where up to 1,300 new homes, a new primary school and community and leisure facilities have been proposed.
Planning permission will now be issued by the Scottish Government Reporter once a legal agreement is concluded to secure the delivery of new infrastructure, community facilities, open space and affordable housing.
On behalf of The Pilkington Trust, Jonathan Henson said: “The Scottish Government Reporter has confirmed that a residential development should be allowed to go ahead on this site. The proposal will allow Perth to embrace its city status and provide the necessary housing and infrastructure to cater for one of Scotland’s fastest growing populations. The appeal was submitted after Perth and Kinross Councillors voted against the advice of their own legal team and planning officials. Today’s decision reverses that decision.
“The proposals have taken too many years to get to this stage, during which we have got to know and understand the concerns of the local community. Moving forward the Pilkington Trustees will continue to try to address these concerns and hope that the local community will work with us to deliver a neighbourhood where people want to live. Hopefully the period of uncertainty has been brought to an end and Almond Valley will help ensure Perth can compete with other cities in attracting new investment and help it become an ever more successful location over the coming years.”
