The new bridge is required as part of the A90/A937 Laurencekirk Junction Improvement scheme to provide access for local people and visitors to Denlethen Wood.

These orders follow the resolution of all objections to the Improvement scheme earlier this year and are needed to enable the implementation of the proposed new overbridge. 

Following the completion of the statutory process, Transport Scotland said it will then be in a position to set a timetable for delivery of the scheme in line with available budgets.

Cabinet secretary for transport Fiona Hyslop said: “The Scottish Government remains committed to delivering a new grade-separated junction at Laurencekirk as part of the package of additional investment alongside the Aberdeen City Region Deal.

“Following publication of the initial draft Orders for the scheme, we received four objections including one from Aberdeenshire Council. These objections have now all been removed following an intense and constructive period of consultation.

“Resolution of these objections represents a significant milestone for the scheme, however, we now need to publish these supplementary draft Orders for the new bridge at Oatyhill to address the decision of Aberdeenshire Council to close the existing Oatyhill Bridge to vehicular traffic. This is essential to allow us to progress the scheme.

“I would encourage locals and road users to visit the virtual exhibition to find out more.

“When completed, the new grade separated junction will improve safety and help reduce delays for all who cross or turn at the busy A90 junction to the south of the town.  This new bridge will provide safe access over the railway for local land holders and property owners, as well as walkers, cyclists and others wishing to enjoy Denlethen Wood.”
