Elderpark Housing has made a key appointment to its senior management team with Duncan Smith set to become its new director of asset management later in the spring.

Duncan joins Elderpark from River Clyde Homes in Inverclyde where he is currently head of energy and sustainability.

And in doing so, he renews a family connection to Elderpark where his family once lived and worked in shipbuilding firm Fairfields.

Welcoming Duncan to Elderpark, chief executive Gary Dalziel said: “We are delighted that Duncan is joining the association as we embark upon our 50th anniversary and his knowledge and expertise in asset management, energy efficiency and sustainable homes will be invaluable to us as we continue to seek to provide high quality homes which meet the needs current and future generations.

“Beyond the obvious expertise, Duncan also brings a successful track record, strong management and leadership skills, a network of contacts and presence within his field off expertise and a passion and enthusiasm for working within the Govan community and in particular for Elderpark Housing which made him the right person for the position. Myself, and all at Elderpark, look forward to working with him.”

“The Association was fortunate to be able to attract a strong field of candidates to the role and I want to acknowledge our thanks for their interest in the role. Our thanks also to Aspen People for their recruitment and executive search support throughout the process.

“Duncan will succeed our previous permanent director, David Adam who left the Association towards the end of last year and we thank him for his contribution during his time with us.”

Duncan has a 25-year record in housing, including time spent with local authorities in Falkirk and Renfrewshire. He is also a board member of CIH Scotland and has previously been involved within many energy-related organisations including Passivhaus Trust and has been a member of various Scottish Government-led working groups on areas including net zero.

During his time at River Clyde Homes, the Association has chalked up some standout achievements in retrofitting tenants’ home and slashing their fuel bills - impeccable timing in a period of ever-increasing fuel bills.

He described Elderpark as one of the most “modern and forward thinking” associations around with a “strong progressive agenda”.

Duncan said: “I am delighted to be joining Elderpark and I’m looking forward to working together with the management team, all staff and the Management Committee in building on Elderpark’s successful record of creating and improving new homes and enhancing tenants’ lives.

“Sustainability and energy-focused activity are vital and topical issues for housing providers and I Iook forward to helping Elderpark achieve significant results while at the same time tackling fuel poverty.

“I see my new role as very much as a homecoming given the strong family and historic connection I have to the Elder Park area.”
