Dundee City Council approves new homes at former school site
Dundee City Council has approved plans to build new homes on the former site of Downfield Primary School.
Despite concerns over a potential increase in traffic in the area, the planning committee gave plans for 23 new homes to be built near Camperdown Road the go-ahead.
City councillors discussed placing extra conditions on the developer H&H Properties to improve road safety, The Courier reports.
Councillor Kevin Kennan said: “What did officers take into account in relation to the amount of accidents there’s been on Camerdown Road and Strathmartine Road junction? which sits 20 yards away from what the access to that site will be?
“It’s a junction where over the years myself and other councillors have raised at local community planning partnership levels because we’ve seen cars that have been written off in accidents at that junction, walls knocked down and everything bar a fatality.”
However, planning officer Gregor Hamilton said it would be unfair to make H&H Properties responsible for improving that situation that is “not of that developer’s creation”.
Mr Hamilton also said the number of homes is unlikely to create a substantial difference to traffic.
At the same time, plans for homes at the former site of St Columba’s Primary School were also approved by the council.
