Pupils have revealed the proposed name for the £100 million community campus and school.
The Children, Families and Communities Committee will be asked to approve Drumgeith Community Campus as the name for the development, with the secondary school to be known as Greenfield Academy.
As the largest investment in education, sport and community provision in the city, the flagship Community Campus will bring state-of-the-art facilities and services to the area.
Set to open in August 2025, the campus will serve as a modern and vibrant central hub for the north and east of the city for both pupils and the community to use. It will provide specialist pupil support provision, citywide music and performing arts, as well as community, library, leisure, and sports facilities for use by the wider community.
Greenfield Academy was chosen as the preferred name following consultation with key stakeholders, including future learners and staff.
The proposed new name reflects the historical use of the site and honours Greenfield House and its legacy as a thriving market garden that provided fresh food to the local population and supported local businesses.
Children, Families and Communities Convener at Dundee City Council, Stewart Hunter said: “Having the preferred name announced marks an important milestone ahead of the campus opening in August.
“Both Drumgeith Community Campus and Greenfield Academy would honour Dundee’s rich past while also looking ahead to the future of education, sport and community provision in Dundee’s East End and North East.
“Selecting a school name is a key step in shaping its identity. The name reflects the school’s values and commitment to creating a rich nurturing environment for our young people. Pupils will now be able to move forward with creation of the school badges and uniforms and I look forward to seeing them.
“Our ambition is for the £100 million community campus to be the heart of the community with state-of-the-art facilities for everyone to enjoy and it’s great to see the vision coming together.”
Lily Briggs, Braeview Academy pupil said: “One reason why this name was picked is because years and years ago there was a house here called Greenfield House. We just love Greenfield as it sounds so positive. We are all so excited for the new school, there is going to be so many opportunities.”
Coll Mckiddie Craigie High School Pupil, added: “The name represents green and gives you the idea of plants and how we grow and that’s what the new school aims to do. There are so many people to meet in the new school.”
Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure Convener Steven Rome, commented: “This £100 million investment in creating the Drumgeith Community Campus in the north east of the city is a significant opportunity to transform educational and community facilities, replacing two outdated school buildings with a modern and vibrant campus.
“The Campus will be more than a school; it will be the focus of a whole community, an accessible and inclusive hub for everyone to enjoy. We’ve seen how well this has worked in other areas and it will be exciting to see this grow and develop in the months and years to come.”
The Children, Families, and Communities Committee will meet on the 3 March.
