East Airdrie Link Road community engagement exercise begins

North Lanarkshire Council is running a community engagement exercise on the updated design for the East Airdrie Link Road.

The single-carriageway road will run from just north of the M8, at the A73 Newhouse Interchange, to the A73 north of Stand and Riggend. It will also provide access to the Replacement Monklands Hospital at Wester Moffat, Airdrie.

It is being constructed by the council as part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal and is designed to improve: journey times and transport reliability; connections between residential areas, town centres, business centres, employment and education; and air quality, by relieving congestion along the existing A73.

From 18 November to 10 January 2025, information showing the latest proposals is available online and to view in Airdrie, Chapelhall and Cumbernauld libraries. There will be an opportunity to provide feedback both online and at the libraries.

Councillor Alex McVey, convener of the enterprise and fair work committee, said: “Since the initial route was proposed, work has continued to develop the route, identifying the location of junctions, roundabouts and bridges and reducing the impact on land and properties,” said

“We are inviting residents and businesses along the route to view the plans online or visit the libraries to give their views on this latest stage of the project.”

The feedback received will be collated and presented to the Enterprise and Fair Work Committee early next year.
