ICA Architects has been commissioned to deliver the Ibis Red branded hotel on a site currently occupied by car parking to the south west of the terminal building, on the corner of Fairview Road and Ingliston Road.
Planning permission in principle was granted in March 2019 for a hotel with restaurant, associated car parking, servicing, access arrangements and landscaping. The latest proposal is for a 251-bed hotel which doesn’t exceed four storeys in height.
A design statement prepared by ICA on behalf of Create Developments states: “The urban context, or lack thereof, of an airport site can make it challenging to develop a considered architectural approach.
“The design of the proposed Ibis Red hotel builds upon the sense of arrival and the excitement of travel, offering a stylish, contemporary alternative to today’s traveller.”
Plans for a 200-bed ‘Aviator Hotel’ for a nearby site were lodged last year.
