Edinburgh One pivots to hotel proposal
Plans to convert a redundant office block in Edinburgh into a hotel have been submitted for planning.
About this development:
- Authority:Edinburgh City
- Type:Leisure
- Applications:
- Team:McAleer & Rushe (developer), Urban Innovations (architect)
McAleer and Rushe Property is proposing to convert Edinburgh One at 60 Morrison Street into a 4-star Clayton hotel, under the Dalata Hotel Group brand.
According to the developer, the office building is now vacant and has been stripped internally to its shell. A hotel with a restaurant and bar at ground floor, a gym and business facilities is proposed.
A description of the proposals, penned by Urban Innovations, reads: “With a potential for 250 to 275 beds, the proposals represent a major investment in the city, which will repopulate the building and support the local economy.
“Excellently located, as highlighted, this will cater to the business and tourist needs of the area, as well as create a wide array of employment opportunities, both in construction and once complete. It will also generate jobs through the supply chain and provide a boost to local businesses.”
Odysseus Capital Management had previously secured planning permission for the redevelopment of Edinburgh One into 88,000 sqft Grade A offices over seven floors.
Architect CDA’s design would have created a double-height reception, while adding two further floors and a roof terrace.
