The Livingston-based contractor commenced work on the 22,000 square foot steel-framed retail unit in March and has now handed over the property to Stirling-based Ramoyle Developments Ltd, which has a strong track record of realising large mixed-use projects.

The project also saw Esh Border Construction undertaking development of a 5,000 square foot service yard – which will become an associated garden centre facility – as well as infrastructure works, and the formation of a new junction with associated traffic lights.

The firm further undertook site preparation works for a new restaurant which will be run separately by a national operator.

Car parking will be located to the front and side of the single-storey B&M unit, providing 110 spaces.

Plans to develop the former McCowans toffee factory site were approved by Falkirk Council in November last year.

Esh Border Construction is confident that further retail work will follow its successful completion of the B&M store.

The contractor has considerable experience of delivering traditional, design and build, framework and partnering projects, working safely, within programme, to budget and to a high quality specification.

“We’ve delivered the project on time and worked closely with B&M and Ramoyle Developments to facilitate a number of key features that we hope will help to encourage footfall when it eventually opens, creating a popular outlet.

“In successfully completing the project, we have also further bolstered our retail portfolio. We are currently tendering for similar projects and see it as a significant part of the business going forward.”

Esh Border Construction is currently delivering a new factory project for Burnfoot-based knitwear manufacturer Scott & Charters, and in 2015 it successfully completed a £3.7m factory expansion for Kirkcudbright-based pâté manufacturers Castle MacLellan Foods.

It recently delivered the £11m Engine Shed building conservation centre in Stirling on behalf of Historic Environment Scotland, and it is currently working with Edinburgh City Council and Collective on delivering the capital’s prestigious £3m Calton Hill observatory project.
