Fairhurst collaboration delivers new outdoor facilities for Aberdeen school

Engineering consultancy Fairhurst has collaborated with 20 other organisations in Aberdeen to deliver new outdoor facilities for a special school for children and young people with additional support needs.

The businesses gave their time, expertise and equipment free of charge to create new facilities at Orchard Brae School.

Following the official opening, Aberdeen councillor Martin Greig, convener of the education and children’s services committee, said: “This is a wonderful example of partnership working.



“By working together, everyone at Orchard Brae School, Fairhurst and the other project partners have helped to pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for pupils at the school now and in the years to come.”

Councillor Jessica Mennie, vice-convener, added: “Every act of support and generosity given by the many organisations involved in this project is a commitment to valuing inclusion, the young people of Orchard Brae and their educational journey.”

Elaine Thomson, executive head feacher of Orchard Brae School, said: “Collaborating with Bob McCracken, chairman of Fairhurst, and the Fairhurst team has been a privilege.

“Fairhurst’s understanding of our students ensures that the classroom will cater to the evolving needs of our learners.



“Further to the recent completion of this project we look forward to our students engaging with the inspiring space.”

Fairhurst’s Bob McCracken said: “The collective generosity of local development and construction companies towards this project has been truly overwhelming.

“We sincerely appreciate their willingness to come together and make such significant contributions.”
