Fife land sale paves way for new supermarket and football pitch
A move to sell land north of Admiralty Road in Rosyth has paved the way for a new supermarket in the town and a new home for local football club Rosyth FC.
Councillors at a meeting of Fife Council’s Cabinet Committee agreed to the site sale which is part of the former Recreation Park, used by Rosyth FC until 2018.
Planning conditions attached to the supermarket development required an equivalent or better alternative football pitch had to be provided. It is now proposed that a contribution will be made towards the cost of the new replacement pitch to be constructed at Pitreavie playing fields.
The full size synthetic pitch will offer a more permanent base for Rosyth FC and will also support wider community use. Previously a grass pitch had been proposed at Fleet Grounds, the current home to Rosyth FC. However this land is the preferred location for a new Inverkeithing High School.
It is anticipated that the balance of the land remaining at Recreation Park will be used by the council for new housing.
Council leader David Ross welcomed the move: “A number of elements have now come together which will provide a new Lidl supermarket for the town, improved sporting facilities, the ability to provide new housing and a preferred site for the replacement Inverkeithing High School.
“This is good news for Rosyth and I’m delighted we’ve finally been able to take this complex sale forward.”
