A developer is hoping it is third time lucky with its new attempt to secure planning permission for a block of flats in Finnieston.

HJV Consultants wants to build a block with 14 flats and two ground floor commercial units at 1017 Argyle Street, opposite Kent Road.

Two previous proposals have been refused, although the more recent one was recommended for approval for planners only to be voted down by councillors.

Planning officials had recommended approval stating: “The proposal’s impact on the conservation area and adjacent listed buildings is considered to be appropriate.”

But councillors on Glasgow City Council’s planning applications committee raised centred on materials not matching the local conservation area and concern over scale.

Previous designs for the development

The application had been significantly amended since its initial validation in April 2022 with the number of proposed flats reduced from 18.

New designs have now been submitted with the applicant saying the top floor has been set further back and the height reduced,

The top floor penthouse would be highly glazed to give “a more reflective glass appearance”.

Other changes include the balconies projecting less on Argyle Street and the street elevations changed to stone and set flush to align with the neighbouring building line.
