Five hundred books to benefit primary pupils after Persimmon donation

Hundreds of primary pupils across Fife are being given a free copy of a new children’s book, following a donation from homebuilder Persimmon North Scotland.

‘Cones and Building Homes’ was commissioned by Persimmon Homes and written by author Chris Madeley. The book is part of a series in which cones discover the world around them. It serves a dual purpose of raising awareness of health and safety among primary pupils, as well as showcasing the construction sector and the world of work.

Fife Council’s Education spokesperson, Councillor Cara Hilton, joined the Headteacher and pupils at Guardbridge Primary School, where they received the first copies of the book. Persimmon’s Eden Woods community in Guardbridge is located near the primary school and the school’s extension was funded by Persimmon as part of the development.

Persimmon is one of Fife’s biggest homebuilders and the books will be delivered to schools near their developments right across the local authority area.

Councillor Cara Hilton, Fife Council’s education spokesperson, commented: “We’re grateful to Persimmon Homes for its kind donation. These books are a welcome addition to our schools; providing useful safety information and introducing pupils to the world of construction.”

James MacKay, Persimmon North Scotland managing director, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting primary schools across Fife with this donation. The books are a fun way for young people to learn about the world of construction and the importance of safety. Hopefully they will also inspire some of the pupils to consider a career in construction in the future.

“We want to leave a positive legacy in the areas we operate in and I want to thank Fife Council for helping us ensure these books reach as many local schools as possible.”
