Five members of staff at Aitken Turnbull Architects have celebrated milestone anniversaries.

Aitken Turnbull, which can trace its roots back to 1887, has witnessed many transformational changes throughout its long history. A ‘constant’ from these early years, however, has been its ability to encourage and enable development to help heighten personal ambition. This ensures each staff member across its four studios in Edinburgh, Galashiels, Dumfries and Manchester has a means to flourish, which has helped maintain a proud sense of loyalty amongst its teams.

Topping the current list of milestone anniversaries is Alistair Whitson, celebrating 35 years with Aitken Turnbull, who joined the practice in 1988.

Alistair’s dedication and expertise have been instrumental in shaping key projects within the practice. During his time as an associate and IT lead for the company, Alistair has also helped navigate the practice from both a technical and digital perspective.

Rachel Armistead, who joined the practice straight from university, now has 10 years’ service under her belt. Rachel continued her personal development and progressed to senior architect last year.

Over her decade with the firm, Rachel has been pivotal in several key projects, including Roxburgh Street Health Centre, ESMAC and the Cancer unit at Lorn & Islands Hospital Oban, showcasing her exceptional talent and commitment to excellence.

Meanwhile, three staff members - associate director James Grant, senior architect Sebastian Mercer, and architectural assistant Inese Krauze, have all reached their five-year milestone.

These experienced team members serve as mentors to newer staff, fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge and expertise are shared freely. Their commitment and loyalty help preserve Aitken Turnbull’s proud legacy while driving innovation and excellence.

Alasdair Rankin, managing director of Aitken Turnbull, said: “Our team continues to strengthen and our practice grows across our four studios, our vision remains client-focused and committed. We strive to continuously evolve, staying up to date with the latest advancements and bringing design-led, knowledge-driven expertise to each project and having long-standing members of the team unquestionably helps us achieve this.

“As we celebrate these significant milestones, I want to congratulate Alistair, Rachel, James, Sebastian and Inese. They can reflect on their journey with the firm, filled with pride. Our success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our talented team, as well as the trust and confidence bestowed upon us by our clients and stakeholders.”
