Flats approved at former Parkhead pub site

Glasgow City Council has approved plans submitted by CDB Properties Ltd to knock down a rundown pub in Parkhead and replace it with a five-storey block of flats.

The site of the Paradise Bar in Tollcross Road was established as a pub in the early 1800s but latterly proved unviable, only opening during football games at nearby Celtic Park.

The bar is considered an ‘unlisted building of merit’, but consultants acting for the applicants stated: “Whilst the history of the property is fully noted, it’s preservation is at the detriment of the economic vibrancy of the area.”

The development will consist of thirteen flats made up of three one-bedroom units, nine two-bedroom homes and one flat with three bedrooms.

A design document included with the application stated: “The vision for the proposed scheme is one of a high-quality residential unit which provides an architectural response sensitive to the existing built environment and in keeping with the townscape of the area.”
