Plans have been unveiled for new seafront flats to be delivered on the site of a former children’s cancer home in Prestwick.

Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd wants to develop 40 flats within four blocks at the former Malcolm Sargent House on Links Road.

The apartments would be 3.5 storeys in height, with a mix of two, three and four bedrooms - with penthouse apartments having their own balconies.

Car parking space for 50 vehicles would be provided.

The former Malcolm Sargent House provided a retreat for children battling cancer for more than 25 years and was opened by Princess Diana in 1989. It was sold in 2017 by owners CLIC Sargent after claims of a “challenging fundraising environment”.

David Smith, managing director of Prestwick-based Ashleigh, told Ayrshire Live: “We’re delighted to present the proposals at what I believe is one of the best sites in the west of Scotland. The location is one which means a lot to the town and the plans for development will be tasteful and high-end.”
