Former Edinburgh office block to make way for new student accommodation
A student accommodation block is to be developed on a site next to Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.
About this development:
- Authority:Edinburgh City
- Type:Residential
- Applications:
- Team:jmarchitects (architect)
jmarchitects lodged plans on behalf of Host Student Housing Management Limited and McKay Limited to demolish the former Cirrus Logic office site at 36-44 Westfield Road and build nearly 300 apartments.
The application has now been granted planning permission by the City of Edinburgh Council after it was recommended for approval by council planners.
A mix of accommodation types was proposed including studios and cluster apartments in five, six and eight-bedroom formats.
The apartments will also have communal amenity such as study space, a residents lounge, a concierge and reception.
There will also be landscaped outdoor amenity spaces, a garden space addressing Westfield Road and 289 cycle parking spaces for each student for whom accommodation is provided.
John Nesbitt, managing director at Host, said: “We are excited to bring the Host student accommodation experience to Edinburgh and provide a welcoming, well-managed and stress-free place to live for students studying at campuses such as Edinburgh Napier, University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt, all of which can be easily accessed by foot, bike and public transport from this location.”
