Planning permission has been granted for a new leisure centre and theatre in Eastwood Park.

The new complex will provide sector-leading facilities including an eight-lane swimming pool, learner pool, a much larger fitness suite and three fitness studios, and a four-court games hall. A much-improved and larger theatre will be complemented by a smaller studio theatre and bar.

The new £56 million facility will be built alongside the existing leisure centre in Eastwood Park so local residents will still have access to the amenities during construction of the new complex.

Councillors on East Renfrewshire Council’s Planning Applications Committee (PAC) unanimously approved the proposals at a meeting yesterday.

A spokesperson for East Renfrewshire Council said: “This is a significant milestone in our plans to replace facilities which are more than 40 years old and no longer fit for purpose. The council is committed to delivering a new leisure centre and theatre to provide much-improved amenities for local residents for generations to come.”

Construction of the new complex is due to begin later this year, though some preliminary work will be required before then.

The council will continue to engage with key stakeholders ahead of the main building work.

The new facilities are expected to open to the public in the second half of 2027 and the existing leisure centre and theatre would then be demolished.
