Full steam ahead for Edinburgh Marina
The City of Edinburgh Council’s planning sub committee has granted detailed consent for the development of a boatyard and associated infrastructure for the new 300 berth Edinburgh Marina.
The new world-class 300 berth Edinburgh Marina at Granton Harbour, the revised masterplan for which was given approval in February this year, will be the focal point of the successful regeneration of this part of Granton, located less than 2.5 miles from the city centre of Edinburgh.
When completed, the whole development will provide over 2,000 new homes, including affordable housing and a retirement living complex, luxury conference and spa hotel, healthcare centre and local shopping.
Kevin Fawcett of developer Granton Central Developments Limited said: “This is a further important milestone in the half billion pound regeneration of Granton Harbour and is a huge boost for Edinburgh. As well as the construction jobs, this development is projected to provide over 900 new permanent jobs, in stunning surroundings with views over the Forth and close to Edinburgh city centre. The new Edinburgh Marina will provide a vital boost to the Edinburgh economy and Scotland’s marine tourism.”
Designed by Wilson Gunn Architects, the development’s total completed projected value is in excess of £500 million.
