Funding approved for Fraserburgh sports facility
Aberdeenshire Council has approved a grant of £150,000 towards the costs of providing a state-of-the-art sports facility in Fraserburgh.
First unveiled when the Fraserburgh South Links Sports Development Trust (SLSDT) lodged plans in July, the £1.2 million project will see the existing football pitches in the South Links port converted into a modern athletics facility.
The facility will include a six-lane running track around a floodlit football pitch once it has been constructed.
Space has also been earmarked for field events, including the long and triple jump, as well as an all-abilities cycling track which is proposed on the periphery of the site.
Council officials have recommended the project for approval when it is considered for full planning on September 27. Should it be given the green light, applications to sportscotland and other funders will be made to cover the balance of the funding necessary with an aim to commence work in Spring 2017.
