Mark Paton replaces Alex Inglis, who is retiring after 30 years as head of the Galbraith residential team in the Scottish Borders.

Mark said: “I am delighted to join Galbraith and very much looking forward to working with the team here as we continue to grow. Our new hub office for the Scottish Borders, in Kelso, will serve customers and prospective buyers and sellers from across the region.”

Simon Brown, partner and head of Galbraith’s residential division, said: “We would like to thank Alex Inglis for his outstanding service to the firm and wish him a very successful retirement. This appointment and the opening of the new office demonstrates Galbraith’s commitment to the Scottish Borders and signals a significant move to advance the firm’s residential services as there is every indication the market will enjoy continued growth next year.

“Mark’s experience in the agricultural sector and knowledge of local communities will be of great benefit to our clients.”

Galbraith reports that the market for country houses has remained buoyant throughout 2021 with houses often selling in the region of 15-20% over the asking price with multiple offers received at closing dates. In some instances, properties have sold within less than a week of being launched for sale on the open market. Houses with land are particularly sought after. The indications are that this level of activity will continue into 2022, driven by a combination of high demand for rural property and a lack of supply.

Galbraith handles the sale of properties valued at £55.4 million on average per quarter across its network of 13 offices in Scotland and the north of England.

Galbraith’s Scottish Borders hub office can be found at 21 Woodmarket, Kelso.
