GB Energy jobs spark Aberdeen HQ hopes

GB Energy, the UK’s new publicly-owned clean energy company, has begun advertising jobs based in Aberdeen, raising hopes that the city will be chosen as its headquarters.

Roles such as energy project development lead and engagement lead, with a salary of £52,985, are currently being advertised. While the jobs are also being advertised in other cities – including Edinburgh, Salford, Darlington, Cardiff, and Birmingham – the job ad confirms the headquarters will be based in Scotland, Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce reports.

This move comes in the same week that UK government energy minister Michael Shanks visited Aberdeen for a series of engagements with the energy sector.

In an open letter to the UK government, over 900 business people and companies have also backed Aberdeen’s bid to host the new energy company, including Sir Ian Wood, Martin Gilbert, and Wood Group.
